Popped into my local supermarket today and picked up a newspaper that happened to have a front-page story about the UK elections.

As the young cashier picked the paper up to scan it, he commented: "I don't understand Britain. How can they spend millions on the Queen's funeral and not have any money to feed children?"

The headline on the newspaper, featuring a picture of Rishi Sunak in the rain outside Number 10, was: "British spring"
